2020 has finally come to an end y’all! If there was one good thing that happened to me this year, was that I had my best reading year! Not only in the quantity (63 books, a personal record), but in quality of the books I read. That’s why it was hard for me to narrow down my favorite books of the year to 10, but here we go!
Born a Crime by Trevor Noah. I literally don’t have words for this book. It was an eye-opening account of life in South Africa before and after Apartheid. I’ve always been a fan of Trevor Noah, but reading this book has turned me into his number one fan. The raw reality and emotion in his life story had me crying and laughing at the same time. This is truly a fantastic book and one of my favorite books of all time.
Ninth House by Leigh Bardugo. This book was so fascinating to me; from the secret societies to the magic, I was completely hooked. I think I especially enjoyed Alex and Dawes’s reluctant friendship.
Here’s Looking at You by Mhairi McFarlane. This is now one of my favorite books of all time! I adored everything in this book, the characters, the writing, the plot, everything!
Mexican Gothic by Silvia Moreno-Garcia. This was the first Gothic/Horror book I’ve ever read, and I’m glad to report I thoroughly enjoyed it. The story is so twisted and unpredictable, it had me full of anxiety. I loved the main character, Noemi; she is so relentless, smart, and resourceful.
Hands Down by Mariana Zapata. It should be no surprise to find Mariana Zapata on this list since I love everything she writes. This was so stinking cute; I loved every second of it! Bianca and Zach’s friendship is so pure and wholesome, it filled my heart with happiness.
Red, White and Royal Blue by Casey McQuiston. This is the most ADORABLE WHOLESOME book I have read. I loved how cute Henry and Alex are; and how obsessed they are with each other. Their emails were filled with the most delightful, raw expression of their emotions, and it was *chef’s kiss*.
Take a Hint Dani Brown by Talia Hibbert. What an adorable story this was. I loved the main characters, especially Zafir, he is the most adorable cinnamon roll. He adores and respects Dani. He understands how important her work is for her and is super supportive of it. Definitely one of my favorite books of all time!
Spinning Silver by Naomi Novak. This book was FANTASTIC! All the main characters are strong, smart, and relentless. They have had all their decisions taken from them; however, they refuse to give up, and I loved that. The world, the writing, the magic, everything was perfect.
The House in the Cerulean Sea by TJ Klune. This book was so adorably charming; it was like a hug in the form of a book. It warmed my heart watching the main character pull down his wall for the children that lived in the house. Just adorable.
Empire of Gold by S.A. Chakraborty. What an amazing conclusion to the trilogy. This series is so politically complex and smart. I remember reading the first and second book, and thinking, there was no way Chakraborty was going to reach a satisfying conclusion. But as always, she surprised me with an incredible ending.
Thank you for Reading!
